10 Things Not To Say To Seniors

How can we define who a senior citizen is?  Legally, when an individual turns 65 they become a senior citizen.  That is when they can begin taking advantage of all the senior discounts that are available to them.

Not everybody feels like they are a senior citizen as soon as they become that arbitrary age.  Some individuals who reach the age of 65 may not like being referred to as a “senior.”

So what other things shouldn’t we say to individuals who have been living on this earth longer than we have, who have seen and experienced so many different things during their lives, both bad and good?

Many of those things have surprised me honestly, and that is why I am so happy to know that those 10 things really can hit a nerve.  Personally, I truly respect my elders and know that above any other label they are human beings first – and I definitely don’t want to belittle anybody.

Were you aware of the fact that the following things that we say were rude?  Has anyone ever said any of them to you?

Just let us know if there are any we have missed.  And share these with your friends and family so that no one gets hurt unnecessarily.  Studies have shown that the health of seniors can be improved by having a more positive and better sense of self.
